The London Bubble Peer Project
ReAct is aimed at Key Stage 3 pupils (11-14) and works in secondary schools consulting on issues relevant to young people, using forum theatre techniques in practical drama workshops.
Theatre practiotioners from London Bubble visit a number of schools, consulting with young people on issues that concern them and affect their lives. Using the material gained from these consultation sessions, a company of young performers and a director then devise a piece of forum theatre that is toured to the schools in which the consultations took place.
The project aims to:
- Provide large numbers of young people the opportunity to discuss and be consulted in issues that are relevant to them and the community in which they live.
- Support teachers who want to incorporate the issues that arise into the subject area of Citizenship and/or PSHE (Personal Social Health Education).
- Offer an opportunity for young people to develop a shared identity as a group and actively demonstrate skills in listening, discussion, teamwork, time management and responsibility, as well as acquiring drama skills in a peer-learning environment.
The project works with one class, of approximately 30, in each school. The show is rehearsed out of school hours and will tour to the partnership schools in the Autumn Term of 2007. Each show can be performed to up to 60 students.
The project is part funded by Community Safety, The Jack Petchey Foundation and The Joanies Trust
