First
Mohammed, where are you? Just had to be first. Great session, seemed to have a lot of energetic positive and new participants. Liked the slowing down , speeding up.
Return of Muhammad
17.01.10: Here I am, dearest Ian! My computer, at home, isn't the most presentable at the moment - though hasn't yet gone TOTALLY kaput! Anyway, enough of my cyber-cry-baby story! . . . Was thinking the other day (Friday) about occupying the space of an egg, and how that would be like finding perfection. The seamless smoothness of the interior of the egg, its 'cosiness' say, and the pleasing soft yolk, at the 'centre.' I went in (not literally!) and stayed in that space for a while, feeling that the world was grand. Then . . . fell, and fell out - only to find a 'perfect' world - with ME as the only anomaly. This is all in a poem I wrote that day, at the Saison Poetry Library. . . . Also, another thought: Do we occupy space, or does space occupy us? Meaning, I suppose there are empty spaces within us which don't ever need to be filled. Our nostrils and ear holes have to be free from fluid or solid matter. We are solid and liquid - and space comes to fill our fleshy form.
Abstract
18.01.10: Our alimentary canals and mouths have to have hollows, else we're in deep trouble. Oh we love the space within us! Thought 2: Thinking last night - that I'd love to be in an abstract play. Something totally different from Realism. The play could start with groups and individuals in postures on chairs - that scene could be animated by motion, some/much sound. Maybe the chair exercise is silent. Then there is motion. The actors sway or dance - they fight and make up, they shout and are quiet, they cry and laugh - display a variety of emotions, make all sorts of noise, throw out scraps/big chunks of dialogue, go through all manner of motion - but the actors NEVER tell a story. As Jools said: the audience get what they want - from the, say, hour long abstract piece.
Too much too soon
Lets not say it all before we've found it.
Dynamic
20>01<10: Good point, Ian ma man! Where were YOU last night? We talked about finding the dynamic in things we did. Finding the FEELING when we were imitating objects (a scarf hanging, then falling; a paper bag being crumpled then dropped and its motions when on the ground, as it kept moving slightly; a cardboard being ripped in to two.) Our 'implied task' (!) for next week is to talk about the DYNAMIC in various instances of LIGHT. We have to notice different examples of Light whenever we can. . . . I wonder whether we're heading for a devised piece like THE SHARING.
Film
25>01<10: Film/discussion night was jolly good last Fri. Though the whole cast didn't show up, we made ourselves comfortable. I got caught up in chat/talking about ASTRONOMICAL/listening/watching pictures on the screen and enjoying the film. On screen, Amanda looked so pretty - and Ian so convincing as an earnest father, so funny with all his strange mannerisms! Thanks Peth for supervising the whole thing Fri night. If I come away with anything from our latest show, it is: What a strange, beautiful universe we live in - it's breathing all around us, with its myriad galaxies and nebulae. Thrilling stuff!
Film
Mannerisms! Sad I missed that. Just couldn\\\'t make it. Hope to see you Tuesday.
Egged On
27_01_10: Was quite flattered to see my idea of occupying an egg take shape, as everyone went thru the process of being enclosed and then . . . finding the relative freedom of the world outside le egg. . . . Moving at various speeds, keeping in mind the whole group, created a quaint atmosphere, where I felt obliged, at one point, to go slow - but then listened to my urge to try different speeds, like the others. One often has to make a sacrifice or 2, to feel liberated. . . . That bit of info from Joolz about where one is looking, how one is breathing, points me, I feel, in, a new direction. One must really immerse in what one is doing and thus seem convincing to self and audience. One may imagine the others moving/acting with a common purpose - that lends credibility to one\'s decisions. Onwards and upwards!
P.S. Oh Ian, where art thou?!
Sutra - Sadlers Wells
Hi everyone,
Just to let you know that the show Jools was recommending is on at Sadlers Wells from 13th - 26th March.

I'm definitely interested in going to see it so let me know if you are too and maybe we can get a group together?
Was great to see everyone last night, hopefully there will be even more of us next week.
Not able to commit
Fraid I can't attend the group on regular basis as I'd like, so will have to pull out. Disappointed & envious!
