todays exercises

Reminded of an interesting one we were made to do at strasberg where through "just sounds and body language" we "communicate" a feeling. So strong, it warrants a reaction....

Enjoyed today.

See you all in 2 weeks!

Singing in the Space

26/05/10: Love the 2 songs we learned yesterday. Got interesting when some acting was injected into the singing. If we have the lyrics we'll likely get good at singing about Nelly and Bonny. Will they meet at some point?! . . . Title for our play: RIVERSIDE CHORUS. How does that sound?
My lecture might include elements from the other pieces ('Look!' 'City-Workers' etc.) I'm looking at the collages I produced last term - got to piece something together. Then wait patiently for Joolz' heavy directing! . . . I get caught up in the enthusiasm my peers exude . . . Nice bumping into Peth.

Elephantine Chorus

03/06/10: Last session seems so long ago. I remember the tune of the chorus in Nelly's lilting song. We must practice a little on Tues. Are these titles for our play any good? - FILLING THE SPACES, SUMMER TIME AND SPACE, FOOTFALLS BY THE RIVER . . .

Lecture Not Intro

09/06/10: My lecture should have focused exclusively on OCCUPYING SPACES - but became an intro to myself, the teacher - I got carried away at the sight of so many 'children!' Quite dug the interaction during that 1st scene. They don't just listen quietly these days! . . . In the play-ground, there's a rumour flying round that there's an elephant somewhere - it's eventually found (abandoned?) in a box. . . . Later we draw the audience to something they just have to see - the little elephant is the trigger to the song: Nelly the eLepHaNt . . . We must then walk fast to Look Spot 1 and be clowny after facing the wall/pillars (a punishement from teacher me?) After looking and gazing at the sun + river we go to the tunnel (passage!) to sing home Bonny . . . Then transition to the hill and steps. The city workers are stiff and robotic at first - but then become supple and clown-like - and they LOOK, driven by curiosity and mirth . . . Thence to the Angels - where we're all grown up - supine, then active, panicky, then benign again. The End. As Joolz said: Must make everything tighter. . . . Thanks Lucy for the ticket. I'm off, I've got 2 songs, clowning, and a lecture to learn! May all our Bonnies return SOON!!

punishment not punishement

Correction: I spelt punishment wrong - dear me! Time for a teacher's training course?! One plus one is three, right Pooja?!!! (You need to be punished!)

With the Tide

16/06/10: My lecture is shaping up. Hope Jools' script reaches me soon - so I can cut my teeth on the stuff. I HATED the fact that the children didn't pay attention to my LISTEN! I was supposed to get impatient and sound stern - but, for some reason, my lecturer waxed mild. Maybe he won't evolve, in the next few weeks! Much to the glee of a certain group! . . . The Playground scene is coming into its own. Think I'm supposed to expound my IVORY theme there. I forgot, and said some other things, not as lecturer! Funny, I was okay in the rehearsal-room . . . Quite enjoyed the Nelly singing - still grappling with some of the words. Hope audience can latch on to the chorus. . . Loved the clowning and LOOK - I suppose one can really let one's self go. Now then . . . What shall I WEAR?!

What did i miss?

Stupid job hunt, is getting in my bubbly ways! Muhammad, though i missed what you had to say "a punishment" sounds like a good idea...in india when we got punished we were asked to stand outside of the classroom ...and the real cheeky naughty students would run off into the play area! so could we into the park where we discover nelly...by the way did everyone find brown, green and sand to wear? i am struggling...so many questions! sorry guys...anyways see you tuesday!

You Missed A Bit

20/06/10: Hello Pooja - you were missed last Tuesday. Not everyone had costumes - only a couple of people, including Anne. I'm not doing so well finding a costume - I have a grey t-shirt but grey's out, Jools has confirmed. I hope to find something from my wardrobe soon. . . . We rehearsed the first part of our play, in the rehearsal room, running the lecture scene, so that we could define clearly what the lecturer said, the 'children's' response, their childishness (they're about nine years old!) . . . We also practiced what we would say at the playground, and the Nelly song. We then took the scenes outside, and practiced on site. We ended with the first clown-Look scene. On Tuesday we'll likely do the rest of the scenes - perhaps from the Bonny song. . . . Quite intrigued by the way you got punished in India! My lecturer won't punish, just be a bit stern when the children pay less attention to him. Especially, whenever, in his factual lecture, he says ELEPHANT!
P.S. Jools has decided to call the play WITH THE TIDE . . .

 Muhammad

thanks for that

Great...so its all coming together :). see u tmrw!
