May to September
In early May we'll be starting work on the Urban Dreams project. This will start with a series of taster workshops for all comers. Plans are still being developed but I hope we'll be running sessions looking at scripting, making and operating big puppets, making and moving in big costumes and developing vocal and choral work. The idea is to create a Dream language and to record and create Dreams. By late June we'll have a script and storyboard, and will be able to organise a more formal rehearsal schedule. This will include a break in August for holidays.
Throughout all this the Band will be writing and rehearsing the Dream music and the 5-7's will continue their Tuesday sessions.
The Urban Dreams project will come to fruition in late September with a series of performances in outdoor spaces across South East London and beyond.
If you want to know more or have a suggestion, post a question or contact the office.
Dreams Nightmares
Dreams for me rarely seem to be the super clear lucid vision with abrupt changes in scale or colour as portrayed in films etc. The ones I remember have often been anxiety driven. Being trapped in tunnel with the sound of breathing, whispering building as I crawl at frantic pace into a smaller and smaller window of light. Or seeing a sunflower plant and being struck by how animate it seems, reaching out and pulling a leaf and then suddenly being aware that it is alive and bleeding that the leaves etc are limbs, banal but not in the dream. Another I remember involved numbers on a scale on a measuring tube that didn't make sense but seemed very important, I spent hours in the dream trying to obsessively puzzle out what the gaps between the numbers meant....
Dream
Tues. 1 April, '08: Hi, folks. Looking forward to the summer project. Interesting thoughts Ian - an exercise in recalling nightmares. Dreams can have a hidden meaning - both according to the Quran and Freud. So, I guess your bad drams might stand for something - perhaps something meaningful to you. Urban dreams . . . hopes and expectations of city-folk? Wish we could have better transport, cleaner roads, safer streets, better parks, less pollution, less noise and light-pollution, less river pollution, less crowding, over-population, fewer road-accidents, fewer drugs-victims, fewer con-men and double-dealers, fewer fires and accidents, freedom from terrorist attacks . . . the list goes on. I guess one of my dreams, as a city-person, is to be in a more of a space-age setting. Space-ships (environment-friendly) in the sky, spaceship-ports, super technology (craft, robots, gadgets) and that sort of thing.
Others
Others write too please! C'mon Jo and Justine! C'mon Lee . . . Ed!
I Wish
I wish the forthcoming workshops could be held on a Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday day/night, Sunday day-time. I always have work on Sun/Mon/Tues/Wed nights!
wen does it start??????
HIIIIIIIIII WEN DO THE GROUPS START??????????
urban dreams
I remember dreams in which I was frequently walking through a familiar landscape. It frequently did not feel right I felt as though I might be out of
My body. Elevated, flying able to lookover through. Round and under. A little luke viewing it through a mirror. Again some thing seem important but the qestion is why?
dream language
language is signs symbols. Dreams for me have been largely visual asfar as I can remmber. Also moments that have hidden meaning. Could be a collection of images that link together where the meaning becomes clearer because of a repetition. Maybe an image or single element.A repeating image of a wheel a turning planet. A whirl pool. Another might be a tunnel. A journey. A quest. Maybe all linked together by a letter sent to a personthat tells a story that they read out to others and find the story is as the one that they are in when listening to the story that they are in. How to generate dream images maybe use automatic writin .drawings that take a line for a walk. Cut ups, large numbers of Chimpanzees. An element of chance could help. Should we have a character who is a kind narrator commenator maybe a shamanistic figure who comments, makes provocative remarks, maybe an analyst , comic Jungian, Freudian who sees everything as serious however banal. Could even like a journalist who moves between different images dreams. Free association which is what I\'m doing?I think....

dreams how to tell?
Come on we need more ideas. People should be chucking them out. So artists who I think give me dream like images.... Max Beckmann (his tryptychs) Ernst , Magritte , Roger Hilton, De Chirico, some a bit obvious, early Freud, Giacommetti. films Hitchcock . Sam Fuller\\\'s \\\'shock corridor\\\' too easy to get trapped in endless generation of cliches...
Dreamscape
Wed. 16/04/08: Hello all. My (and Ian's) lonely trudge thru Bubble-message-board land! So, Ian - a Narrator who sees everything as serious, however banal . . . A bit of a clown . . . hmmm . . . How about other characters? Perhaps, folk that live in/walk thru a dreamscape - an urban dreamscape. All round - buildings, heavy traffic, dust and smoke, noisy crowds . . .
Write again Alfie!
