Thebes
can you tell me more about Thebes?
Ian,
Thebes Unveiled
14/06/08: Peth mentioned off-hand that he is trying to create a Greek feel to the story-telling/acting. Though not involving the people of Thebes, but the people of London! . . . I have a bit of experience with Euripides as we did The Bacchae a few years back. In it, the women form a chorus that is quite expressive and their actions prove to be quite integral to the central theme of bloodlust and power . . .
Thanks
Sounds very interesting.
Cyclops Critter
18/06/08: Hello to all Bubble folk. Nice to be part of puppet-partial get-together. I was part of a Cyclops-critter which came across enemies, and, I believe, not a single mate! Aya's finger-puppets each had a single conversationalist - they didn't all get together and create a cacophony! Would they be visually just as appealing if they were dark in colour (jet black) - or would they just be harder to see? I tried so hard to give the clay tableaux a thematic title - but failed. Let's face it - I'm just not up to it! Lastly, must mention the story enacting. I guess the actor has freedom to tell a story however he/she chooses. Oh, about a second language - I'd love to say some things in Bengali, on stage - the other Muhammad can interpret! Okay, I'm done. Bring on the masks!
Puppets Two
26/06/08: Hello o readers! Last night was Puppetry part II, I guess. Maybe we can incorporate the clay-figure making, in our play. Narrators can mould characters that then come alive . . . and say and do things. And Puppets - inanimate puppets, animated - even human puppets - the Ian puppet! Let's do some mask stuff on Wednesday . . . Ciao!
Being a puppet
That was quite weird, being a human puppet. It did feel almost like a death, surrendering the will and only putting energy into things when physically forced. Most peculiar certainly not weightless, actually more intense sensation of weight in the feet. Loved the last activity, 4 ages of man, so many common points and what a contrast to the womens' states of being, really interesting. Lucy's laugher, eery.
Puppet World
29/06/08: I have become a pup or puppet. I need to be moulded into a breathing human or human-puppet - but no one is here to do that for me. I long to be a puppeteer - I look for potential puppets. I close my eyes and see a shoal of fishes (they're actually human) and they are led this way and that - back and forth. I have this innate desire to tell other people's stories and have other people tell mine. My dreams and aspirations float in my mind and I want to spend more time with them. They are alive - they breathe. Puppets and puppet creatures mingle round me - I see them moving, conversing with humans, making creature-noises. Beings behind masks flit past. In short, I live in a parallel world. Who can take me out of this box?
A E I O U
02/07/08: I'm out of a pickle - tonight's Bubble frolic has saved me! At long last . . . masks . . . dinner-plate masks. The expression I had behind the plate-face was contorted with trying to be un-nice and baaad! And . . . behind Alfie I had to remember what he said, in what order . . . a useful exercise. An inflatable doll is like a puppet. Also . . . an automaton or a robot. And . . . A E I O U, mingled with nonsense-talk . . . led up to such a high-pitched noise from me that I was shocked! I worried for my vocal-cords! The whole-group thing right at the end had me eager to get going. I was INNOCENT to begin with; I came away feeling SMUG! Quite looking forward to Sunday's 'do' - I pray EVERYONE can make it. I'm spent . . . your turn Ian! How about other folk writin'? Could be fuuuuun!!
cool
cool idea i love it i wish that too
un-easy
Hey Justine . . . Don't you think it's sad that puppets can't literally speak? We always need a know-it-all puppeteer!!
