Speech Bubbles oct 11
Speech Bubbles in the Southwark PDCs, and it's sister project Speak Out in Lewisham continue to develop. We now have projects in 10 primary schools,a primary Pupil referal unit and a special school. We are going to launch a parent and child group in the new year with places offered first to children who have been involved in Speech Bubbles. We have got two taster sessions in November to try out the idea and they are booking up fast.

Interesting conversation this morning with Peth about how we are going to make sense of some of the changes we see in children in Speech Bubbles, the conversation started when we were discussing a child who normally only whispers to his teacher - but in his first Speech bubbles session said his name aloud, offered story ideas and acted in the story square.

parents and children
Last week we ran two sessions here at the Bubble for parents and children together, we have another session like this on saturday at Coin Street community centre as part of the STEP festival. It was lovely to develop the work we have been doing in school with young children and to think about how to create a session that is engaging and stimulating for 6 year olds and their parents. All the adults who came threw themselves into the work making up stories, creating soundscapes and acting out the characters. Thank you. In January we will start a new ongoing group at the Culture Space in Canada Water - watch this message board for developments - or call the bubble on 02072374434 if you would like to book a place in the group.
Dec 2011
This year was the national year of communication - did you know? It was planned as a high profile campaign but lost 80% of its funding early on, the communications trust continued to promote the year with a series of monthly events and a website packed with resources www.hello.org.uk. We carried on what we have been doing and used the year as a way of promoting our Speech Bubbles work with children in KS1. The work is developing and as well as sessions taking place in 13 Southwark and Lewisham schools we are launching a parent and child group in January and planning a conference in march www.londonbubble.org.uk/do_stuff/speech_bubbles_training. We are fundraising to develop a training model for other theatre companies so that the work can be spread around the country and benefit 1,000's more children with a communication need. watch the video to see how much fun it is http://bit.ly/qxIX8x
