Casting

Only just spotted this debate. Good that it's being talked about. Matt, are you saying the parts in Forty Walls went to the same old same old, or in other BAD group shows ?

It is a conundrum. When we have a lot of people who want to make theatre then we need to look at the theatre we're making. I reckon Forty Walls worked strongly when everyone was involved - in lifts, or boxes or the maze. And when I see a large cast really in the zone and cooking - everyone working towards the same thing - then I find it strong and artful. And more interesting than most theatre. Trouble is when words are involved they tend to become "parts" and they are seen as the main business. For me this is not so.

The Red Shoes was a good solution. I think everyone was challenged. And the company rose to the challenge,

(Urban ) Dreams

It looks as if it will be very challenging and fun - there are some wonderful surreal moments. The masks should be good. Feel there is a need for some kind of framing device - it must be clear to the audience about the value and importance of dreaming - personally and collectively.I expect this will come.
