Linda Dobell
Post date: Monday August 17, 2009We received the incredibly sad and shocking news last week that Linda Dobell had died.
Many people have enjoyed Linda's work - as an actor, or choreographer, or director, or simply as a chivvier and friend. Whatever she was working on, she brought humour fiercely blended with rigour to the rehearsal room. She expected the same application from all theatre makers, whatever their age or experience, believing that if you were privileged enough to be performing, you should give it your best. When performing, be it as the Philosopher in The Crock of Gold, or the Caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland, Linda married her brilliant physical skills to a gently self mocking tone which allowed space for her to enjoy the character in the same moment as the audience.
I know that many members of the Bubble will have their own memories - the Box Dance, the cheesecake moments, the occasional telling off and many many moments of support and love. Linda leaves an enormous void - but she also leaves more than enough moments of joy and wisdom to fill it.
Linda’s funeral is at 1.30pm on Tuesday 25th August, starting at Area 10 in Peckham.
With love, Peth.
