the office diary

4.45pm, 14 May
I will try and keep a Fan Made diary (outside of the rehearsal room, I hasten to add, because you are invited to come to rehearsals and view it for yourself!) to update you, on what is happening on a regular basis. Lets see if this works!
Next week, Simon Startin will be officially starting the scripting of The Sirens of Titan, though I am sure he has been thinking/ dreaming since the Stakeholder night!
Also we will be meeting with our designers - Feast, regarding our print and other marketing related stuff. The making of a piece of print is as stressful as the making of a piece of theatre, and I kid you not! If you have any great suggestions on what has worked for u, in its design or messaging, please direct me to it. please...
That should be enough to start off.. have a good weekend

Week 2 - Office communicates

3.15pm, 19 May
This week has had a bit of a colourful start. Peth has written an article for the Guardian which has been featured here http://bit.ly/9kMFfq. Feel free to leave a comment.

We also had a presentation meeting with the designer, with 7 colourful designs discussed. It was a mini stakeholder night - there was Viewing, Voting and a little less defined Verdict was delivered. Adding to the stress of creating a piece of print is the creation of the perfect text. Something that explains in a few words the experience of a summer show. Come on, someone else also have a go...

Posters

4.35pm, 21 May
Two posts this week.. line manager is happy!

Most of you would have received the email about the poster design dilemma and we hope you will let us know your comments. We hope to go definite by Monday, so take your time but don't take forever to respond!

A creative week has ended on a rather dry note - today has largely been taken by sourcing spare tyres and wheels for our lovely Ford Transit. You wouldn't associate that with making theatre, would you?

dog in a space suit

Of the two I prefer the dog in the space suit, though I am not sure Kazak would actually be wearing a space suit its still s striking image, thought maybe it depends on how much the dog features in Simons script ?

Poster confirmed

29 May
Thanks to all who gave us their comments on the posters. We have taken most of them on board and have finalised the robotic hand image (I hope it was so striking, you would remember which one it was!)
The script is being worked on and we hope access to it on googledocs can be provided to all very soon.
We are having two new members who will soon join our Fan Made team, and I am not talking about the production mass or the acting cohort. Owen will possibly introduce himself soon here, it is May that I am worried about!
Look out for new staff pics on the Bubble website..

New appointment - May

Following an emergency staff meeting, May has joined the Bubble as Advisor, Canine Matters. In her new role May will be responsible for all communications with and support for Canine lovers. She brings with her years of theatre loving experience, with a specialism in promenades. May is resident of South East London and a lover of parks and woods.

Following her appointment, May has released the following statement -

"I wondered how long it would be before London Bubble approached me with a serious offer of employment. As a theatre company who purport to work in green spaces they encounter dogs regularly. Dogs watch their shows. Dogs appear in their posters. Dogs bite their actors I am honoured to be stepping into the role previously occupied by the legendary Basil and will do my utmost to bone up on the subjects that the Bubble need to consider. Have already commented on their poster of Sirens of Titan and am looking forward to more challenges. Thank you people."

Rehearsals updates

29 June

Less than 4 weeks to the day when the curtains open in Sydenham Wells Park!

Had a read through in the parks yesterday, done in our typical promenade style - gave the new actors a feel for how the final performance will feel.

While the actors are in the RR with the Director, Assistant Director, Julia Voce, and Company Stage Manager Kate, the production team is out and about shopping! Alice, the wardrobe mistress is checking out charity shops for costumes. Rich Hall, Props manager and Mike D, Technical Stage Manager are shopping for props. And finally, Mike Jones is sourcing stuff to create Kazak, the dog.

Lots of people, lot of energy, a bit of chaos.. all working towards making one brilliant show!

First week of Rehearsal

2 July

5 days into rehearsals, and you can feel the heat in the office, literally! And I am not just complaining about the way the building just hots up, which is also the case :)

Its been very busy this side of the yard, lots of arrivals - props and people. I always feel that the Production team has such a fun time opening these wonderful boxes of sky candles and paddling pools, whilst we are neck deep in licensing, paper work, more paper work and never ending paper work! Having said that, the sight of Mike D, our Technical Manager trying to inflate a large Gym ball with a hand pump looked really hard! Paper work is easy :)

In all the fun of Fan Made Theatre, we are also managing to wave the Speech Bubbles, Grand Children of the Blitz and Occupying Spaces flags. Sessions are running, performances are scheduled for next week and that means more paper work! Back to my forms, then.. have a good weekend.

The half way point

7 July 2010

As with most things, the half way point is one of celebration, reflection, excitement and anticipation. And its the same with us!

The actors and the director are working through the script, which is now in its third draft. Every now and then we hear actors coming over for a cup of tea, still in their characters which is very funny!

The office continues to be a far less exciting place. I am glad that all licenses have been obtained and am now in a 'print' mode - from banners to t-shirts, to AA signs. Its all about open communication. Lucy and Owen are trying their hardest to make sure we tell as many people/ groups and organisations about the show. Since we only do 1 show a year, it becomes very important that we connect with everyone we work with throughout the year and inform and/or invite them.

And, before I incur wrath from my football loving colleagues, we are running a very popular WC sweepstake, and I will formally announce the winner on this platform!
