landing on the moon
I must admit I am a bit stuck when it comes to thinking up a proposal. The thing about the two proposals made already is I can imagine them as Bubble shows, so that makes them excellent ideas. Perhaps its because they have strong stories and spectacular incidents, they sound sort of right.
I did have one idea which was to recreate the 1969 moon landing since its 40 years ago that it took place , but how you make that into a parks show I'm not sure you'd need to spin another thread of storytelling through it and I'm not certain what that would be.
So many images and from them...proposals!
So, the abiding images from past shows for me are- fire, sunset, the thames, foot-lit faces, little installations on the journey through, natural stages made by trees, steps, slopes. The journey from space to space was/is very significant for me so stories of journeys and quests come to mind- a modern Odyssey with a modern take on all the misogyny (got Sirens and Ulysses on my mind you see). Ovid was a particular favourite of recent years- the transformations to and from natural phenomena....
More thoughts of the parks after dark
Being in the park after dark- that illicit enjoyment of a public, yet still mysterious, place. After dark... The brothel scene in the Royal navel college...what show was that...? could the show have lots of interactive elements, surprises, choices (maybe I've been to one too many Punchdrunk shows)
The driving off in a car at the end... beautiful. More vehicles. A vehicle ballet. A bicycle ballet. The tents are also wonderful...Narnia? Could the audience take part more...?
Bicycles
Funny you should mention bicycles Jools... I have idea for a proposal for a retelling of the Italian Neo-Realist film The Bicycle Thieves. Will post again with more details soon (hopefully by the end of the week!)
Discuss these...?
Ah lovely Bike images- do we encourage poeple to Cycle to the show and they can take part in a Bike Ballet before the show starts. The Bicycle theives- that's been on my redar recently- did you mention it before?... look forward to hearing more.
Mandy and I went on a bus trip using (attention BAD group members).... yes A TRAVALCARD! (actually an Oyster card) and we came up with the following proposals- well they are more like seeds that need some discussing before submitting- Here goes-
1. A modern day Odyssey with our hero being more evryman hero like Leopold Bloom in James Joyces' Ullyses...
2. A retelling of Canterbury Tales- all the boroughs being close to the Pilgrim way an' all that...
3.Peter Ackroyds' London as a starting point.
4. The story of Caroline Herschel and the Royal astronomers- their discoveries changed the way we think about space and time I have an image of us all in the park star gazing (hmm light polution?) and the stories of the constellations take us to distant lands of pirates, navigations and myths and other planets...
That's all for now. There were two more seeds but they need to germinate a little before even discussing...
Shows, Shows, Shows
I would love us to look at another Shakespeare, like the Tempest or King Lear.
Alternatively, let's make a Midsummer Nights Dream.
That's my proposal.
For now!
A Midsummer Nights dreams
My Fave Bubble show of all time well my lifetime is A midsummers night dream. Maybe this could be down with a more urban twist I don't mean the characters keep the language but the settings/ the installations/ costumes playing with projection/recorded sound. Making the surreal more surreal. mmm not sure an idea
and the characters
I meant not just the characters so even the characters have that urban twist aswell. south east london shakespear. really interact with the media.
A Midsummer Nights dreams
I've just officially proposed A Midsummer Nights dream using the "submit an idea" Hope it shows up on the site soon.
it all worked
Hurray ! My proposal went through. If you have tried submitting an idea before and it didn't go through try now as it all seems to work.
