Help us Illuminate Rotherhithe

Illuminate Rotherhithe was launched by a community lantern procession on 23 November.
We hope this will be an annual event so please keep in touch for details about Illuminate Rotherhithe 2018.

Free, family Lantern Making workshops
In preparation of the lantern procession, we ran a series of free lantern making workshops. These were supported by a team of volunteers who learnt how to make the lanterns, and then helped others at the workshops.
Over 100 people came to make lanterns with us and many of them came back to collect them & join the procession on 23rd November.
The lanterns are made from withies covered in PVA coated tissue. They take time to make (but are very satisfying!)

The Procession took place on Thu 23 November, 5pm. Starting from Mayflower Park, Lagado Mews. It passed along Albion Channel, crossed Albion Street and ended at the river bank behind Brunel Museum, and was supported by a team of volunteer stewards.
It was accompanied by music from Les Zoings. Zanily dressed in fashionably up to the (last) minute, show-stopping costumes, Les Zoings are a marching brass band from S.E. London who play a medley of songs from around the world bringing musical frivolity where’er they walk.

We are very grateful to all the volunteers who helped make the lantern making workshops and procession a success.

Illuminate Rotherhithe will be back for 2018...
