Grandchildren Of The Blitz
The Grandchildren of the Blitz project is looking at what it was like to grow up in London during the period of the Blitz. The project will bring young people from Bermondsey, Rotherhithe and Deptford together with elders from the area - who were children themselves during the time of the Blitz.
We will be holding training sessions, workshops and weekly sessions for 9-12 year olds to research the history of this period and then we will set up interviews between the young people and the elders. We will take the stories, memories and ideas from these interviews and will work together with a writer to create a script. We hope that the script will be performed by an intergenerational cast in Spring 2011.
Want to get involved? We are looking for people of all ages to get involved in Grandchildren of the Blitz. Whether you have got a story to tell, whether you want to hear and perform in the stories of London's past or if you are just interested in knowing more about the project - we want to hear from you!
What is happening now? We are also offering training days for adult volunteers and participants; these will be run by the Imperial War Museum and the Oral History Society and will take place throughout May, June and July. Get involved
We are running sessions for 9-12 year olds every Thursday from 5.00-6.30pm at our base in Rotherhithe. The focus of these sessions will be to work together to gather research material related to the Blitz and to create lines of enquiry around the Blitz-related history of our local area. We will follow up whatever captures our interest and imagination using games and drama-based activities.
If you want to find out more about the project or register your interest as a participant or as a volunteer, please contact Marigold Hughes on marigold@londonbubble.org.uk or call 020 7237 4434 to find out more.
Grandchildren of the Blitz is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
