Hate Crimes Peer Education Project

Funded through the Metropolitan Police Southwark’s Targeted Police Initiative

For several years London Bubble had been using peer education as a means of allowing young people to discuss issues that are pertinent to them. Previous projects have explored issues such as Parenting, Consumerism, and Young People’s Relationship with the Police. For this Hate Crimes project, the company expanded on the model of taking a show performed by young actors into schools, by re-introducing a workshop element that uses the techniques of Forum Theatre.
This technique allows the audience to discuss any issues that arose in the performance by replaying scenes and substituting themselves into the scene and ‘role playing’ with the cast.

The play was devised using initial interviews with agencies and individuals, including young people and youth workers, the experiences of the young people in the cast, and media research.
Pain, Blame and Shame toured to main stream and special education needs schools in Southwark.
