  • Children have the best imaginations!

Long time Bubble member and now actress and scriptwriter, Jade, fills us in on the this summer’s children’s holiday projects.

The children spent a week at Bubble making theatre during their school holidays. On the final day of the project, they shared their original theatre piece with an audience of family and friends. What was the piece about?

Well, on Monday 8th August, this brilliant bunch of 9-11 year olds were visited by none other than Lady Lucinda Eccleworth, cousin to Jade the facilitator and a multi-millionaire, who made her wealth by selling other people’s inventions in her very own Lucinda’s Lair. On a mission to find some new inventions, she came to London Bubble with a proposition for the young people…

“Invent something that is going to help the way people live and together we will make millions!”

… a hard deal to turn down right? No wonder all the children wanted in, created inventions, pitched them to Lucinda and SIGNED HER CONTRACT.

Of course, Lucinda wasn’t to be trusted, and with the small print on the contract going unread, Lucinda’s mission to steal the imaginations of our group of 9-11 years olds was successful! She ran away with the contract and therefore all of the young people’s imaginations. Every drawing they made belonged to HER. Every story they told belonged to HER. Every idea they were to ever have from now onwards – you guessed it – belonged to HER.

“But we have a plan to get her back!” -9-11’s

In just four days, this wonderful group of newly-formed inventors conjured up a plan to entice Lucinda back to London Bubble, cleverly targeting her weaknesses; her love for money and sparkly new inventions. Finally trapping her in a net!

Against all odds (& 32 degree heat!) they used their brains, hard work, creativity and courage to retrieve and destroy the contract, therefore restoring their imaginations and banishing Lucinda from South East London! Wahoo!!

Bravo team.

DISCLAIMER: No facilitators were harmed in the making of this immersive theatrical experience…. For the most part!

Amazing, sounds like everyone had fun! How was it for you, as facilitator for the week?

It was a full on explosion of creativity! An immersive theatrical experience, guided by us the facilitators, brought to life by these brilliant young children. Myself and Amari devised a basic idea for a main character and a “problem”, introducing the young people to both on our first day together. Over the week, the children explored problem-solving through theatre, using games and exercises, designed to encourage their ideas, work as a team in order to achieve a shared goal: to get back their stolen imaginations from the ruthless Lady Lucinda Eccleworth!

It has been a real joy to both facilitate and perform with the young people, combining my passion for acting with my love for running drama workshops with a company who I joined many moons ago as a painfully shy and unconfident 6 year old. What a journey its been! Feeling very proud of the young people who have tested their courage and given all they had to create such a fantastic and fun show. Bravo team!
