CULTURE CROYDON
In October 2025 we worked alongside Culture Croydon’s Creative Health team and trading standards to bring a bespoke play about the real risks of online gaming scams to over 1,200 Year 5 students across 19 primary schools.
The project was part of a wider public health initiative supporting children’s well-being and gave them the tools to make safer choices.
For her 10th birthday all Kam wants is the latest app that every kid at school is playing – Stoxworld. When her dad surprises her with a tablet and the game, she’s excited and has the most fun building  her virtual dream world until her account is hacked, and all her hard earned game money disappears…
CAST:

CREW:
- Sapphire Joy – Lead Facilitator

Our cast and crew also acted as workshop facilitators, guiding activities and ensuring that every participant felt included. Many of the artists employed are 18-30 and have trained with us in one of our projects for young people.
The Devising Process
Like most of our plays, Kam’s World didn’t start with a script. Our Associate Artists and Artistic Director, Marie Vickers, worked collaboratively and used improvisation techniques to create the characters and devise the show.
The devising process also involved research and development, as well as a consultation workshop with the target audience before being toured.
Performance, Workshop & Key Outcomes
First, the children watched the play, and then they took part in the interactive activities that followed. Below are key outcomes from the performance and workshop:
- Increased awareness of online scams to children, including how to recognise risks, react and resolve unsafe situations.
- Provided an opportunity for children to reflect on their own behaviour online, share advice with peers, and explore safer choices.
- Engaging the children with contemporary cultural references through language, set and sound design made the content accessible, digestible and relatable.
- Use of drama games and interactive activities encouraged collaboration and confidence-building among students.
After the tour, we were later appointed by Croydon Culture’s Health Team & Trading Standards to produce a recording of the play. The film, accompanied by our learning resources, enabled the projects reach to be extended beyond the tour.
- Nicole Latchana – Filmmaker
The Tour
In 2 weeks, we visited 19 schools, put on 33 shows and reached an audience of 1,200 + children.
By taking theatre directly into schools, we can reach young people who might not otherwise access the arts, offering them a positive cultural experience. As with all our projects, our aim is to ensure that people feel seen, heard, and valued.
