  • East 15 Acting School student shares his experience of working with Bubble

This summer George undertook a work placement with Bubble. How did it go? Read on…

I first visited London Bubble to watch Cardboard Citizens’ show: Bangers, and I was immediately struck by how welcoming and approachable the staff were. I left filled with excitement about the upcoming placement, and my excitement was more than fulfilled, as I have loved my time here.

I have had the opportunity to meet and work with so many creative, considerate, hardworking people that always welcomed me into their sessions and workplace with enthusiasm. They have taught me a great deal about working with the community and making theatre accessible and enjoyable for all, no matter who you are. Behind the scenes, the admin team have created a perfect working environment, where I have been able to get a great insight into how a community theatre company is run. Amongst the whole Bubble team, there is a clear sense of teamwork and support for each other, as well as all visitors.

It has been a privilege to work with the participants in the children and youth summer projects too. They have been nothing short of inspirational, expressing their creative voices in numerous ways, even when some of them have felt they do not identify with drama. Seeing them perform and come out of their shells was moving and this is a credit to how inclusive the company is. Before I arrived, I expected it to be inclusive, but I was struck by the sheer effort the team put in to ensure everybody enjoys their time there is admirable. Bubble provides the local community with a FREE space to learn, make friends and express themselves, valuing everyone’s voices the same. This stuck out to me and I will pass this on to anybody who wants to know more about the company.

To say I have enjoyed my placement at London Bubble would be the understatement of the century! They truly are the models for how theatre workshops in the community should be delivered.
